Environmental Statistics of the European Electricity Industry

The 2nd Environmental Statistics of the European Electricity Industry - Trends in Environmental Performance 2003-2004 was recently published by EURELECTRIC.

The press release (see attachment) highlights, that the report

"also provides data on by-products from coal combustion, ashes and desulphurisation products, of which 95m tonnes are produced yearly by the power industry. These by-products need not be discarded, as they are suitable in their existing form, without undergoing any significant transformation process, for use in a number of economic applications. The use of by-products from coal combustion is thus an excellent example of sustainability, since their use results in the saving of natural resources and reduction in emissions from extracting virgin material".
