International Coal Ash Conference in South Africa: 2-4 October 2006
The South African Coal Ash Association is arranging an International Conference on Coal Ash. The theme, Coal Ash - A Valuable Resource, follows on from the previous highly successful conferences held in 1987 and 1994.
This conference aims to create an awareness of, and provide a platform for, the dissemination of information on scientific progress in coal ash in the broadest sense. Not only has fundamental knowledge been increased over the last decade but new areas of opportunity to utilise, rather than to dispose coal ash, are emerging. New technologies are being developed to improve both the amount of energy extracted from coal and the environmental impact associated with its combustion. These will impact on coal ash utilisation but will not diminish its status as "A Valuable Resource". The residues produced present new opportunities for applications that could obviate disposal.
The conference aims to address topics around coal ash in its broadest sense. It will provide an opportunity to South Africa's industrial and scientific communities to showcase their progress and demonstrate their ingenuity. It is envisaged to attract a large number of international experts to provide an overview of the state-of-the-art technologies elsewhere in the world and address topics of mutual concern.
